An armed theft suspect barricaded himself in a residence and held police at bay for a number of hours Wednesday afternoon in Girl Lake.

Michael DeShaun Pettis, 18, who lives in The Cove flats on U.S. Hwy. 27/441, had used a social media platform to rearrange the acquisition of a gaming gadget, in response to an arrest report from the Girl Lake Police Division. When the vendor arrived on the residence advanced, Pettis and a 17-year-old confederate ordered the vendor at hand over the gadget and depart the residence advanced. Pettis, who was arrested in December in a taking pictures on the residence advanced, brandished a gun on the vendor and informed him, “You higher get to strolling.” Pettis ran away with the gaming gadget.

A Okay-9 unit responded to the scene and tracked Pettis to a residence within the 600 block of First Avenue. Police confirmed it was the residence of Pettis’ 17-year-old confederate. Police negotiated with Pettis for “a number of hours” earlier than he ultimately walked out by way of the entrance door and surrendered. A search of the residence turned up the stolen gaming gadget which had been hidden in a dryer.

Pettis is dealing with a felony cost of theft with a lethal weapon. He was booked on the Lake County Jail on $50,000 bond.

The 17-year-old was additionally taken into custody.
